Good lord, what rubbish
I realise this is a childrens film... but it's dire. Like scream out loud dire. And long enough to make you wonder 'why did I just waste a significant part of my life to this?' The first half is pretty decent but then come the battle scenes. Moronic tosh. Oh so many pregnant pauses - mid battle - while people stop and gaze in to the distance... so many blatant copies of Lord Of The Rings scenes but without the style or competence... so many opportunities to kill the bad guy which are not taken... I walked away from the TV multiple times because it was, well, so crap. Frustrating crap at that. Avoid at all costs and watch LOTR instead.

A Good Adaptation of Lewis's Weakest Work
If you've read the C. S. Lewis book on which this movie is based, you will immediately notice some additions. While I normally object to Hollywood taking excessive liberties with a book, the final product was probably a much better movie than one which had stuck slavishly to the C. S. Lewis original. This is because of all Lewis's works in the Narnia series, I believe this to be his weakest. It's like necessary fill between the preceding Lion the Witch, and the Wardrobe and the following Voyage of the Dawn Treader - both great works.

The most obvious additions include the attack on Miraz's castle. Not in the book, but it adds a lot of action to what would have otherwise been a rather dull discussion about how hopeless it was to try to defeat Miraz's superior army, and how they could goad him into accepting a challenge to personal combat. There is also a bit of a micro-romance between Susan and Prince Caspian. Not in the book, but it adds a touch of something that modern teen-age girls like to see in a movie, without totally trashing the ideas that the book is ultimately about (and if Narnia and C. S. Lewis are about anything, it's ideas).

I was really curious to see how they would adapt the relatively dull book (by the standard of the rest of the series) to the silver screen. I love how they portrayed the Telmarines as thinly veiled 16th Century Spaniards. Given the "Englishness" of the characters it seems so much more appropriate than to portray them as 19th Century Frenchmen or 20th Century N*zis. Yes, they did take some liberties with the original story (movies always do), but in all, they stayed true to C. S. Lewis classic and presented it in an interesting and entertaining format.

Narnia
My 2 yr old granddaughter and 3 yr old nephew loved the movie, so much action. Even the adults loved the movie, it stopped them during their conversation and they just sat and watched the movie with the children.

Great family film
I love the Narnia books and they are doing a fine job with the movies. I am looking forward to the next movie.
