Are you my mummy?
Ood, Daleks, Sontarans, oh my! The Doctor Who, season four, with David as the Doctor is one of the best. These episodes are wonderful, funny, filled with action and drama. Many of the lines, jokes, and themes cross time and space, their source coming from older episodes, some from the 70s and others from just a few years ago. Older Doctor Who fans will laugh and new fans will want to collect the older DVDs to see what the joke is about.
Tons of extras, such as David's video diaries, deleted scenes, audio commentary and the Children in Need Special, Time Crash. Donna Noble is such a great character, a true mate, somebody who can keep the Doctor on track and honest. When not yelling at him. The last few episodes are wonderful, but I really wish Davros was not in it. Loved the fat!

Same great series.....
I'll admit, I was NEVER a fan of the original Dr Who series. I thought it had some great ideas, but such poor production value (and horrible acting) that it was hard to sit through. What I love about this new show is how Russell Davies has been able to keep the same great ideas from the original (as to please old fans) and push the special effects through the roof (to make it MUCH more watchable for the casual viewer like myself)! Oh sure it's got it's silly moments...okay sometimes VERY silly moments but I think that was done to make it more accessible to younger viewers and they never seem to get in the way of the great story telling.
Also what's terrific is the casting choices. David Tennant makes the Doctor character classic from his first episode (I'd go out on a limb and say it's like Harrison Ford and Indiana Jones!), and every companion is instantly likeable from Rose to Martha to Donna.
Now, after three seasons of greatness comes this fourth season. If you're a Dr Who fan, purchasing this DVD is a MUST. It again has everything that makes the series great and seems to add some more physical action this time around. If you havent seen the show yet, obviously you have to start with season one (2005).
As I said before this season has the same great elements as the previous ones (and I love Catherine Tate as the Doctor's new companion), but I have to admit things seemed a bit more typical and by the book this time around. This isn't neccessarily a bad thing but after the last three seasons, each topping the one before it, I thought that season 4 felt a bit more redundant. It just didn't WOW me like it did in seasons 1-3 (though they did set the bar pretty high). Again this isn't a bad thing at all, just the same great story-telling as you'd expect (though the resolve in the last episode was a BIT over played).
If you're a Dr Who fan: buy it (while the price is still low on Amazon), if you're new to the series: start with season one. This show is not to be missed!

Brillant!
What a brilliant series!!! Catherine Tate is wonderful and David Tennant continues his reign as my favorite Doctor. They (and Russell T. Davies) will be sorely missed. 2008-11-22

my favorite season caused by some of the deepest emotional moments in the series history
I will keep this short. There have been times throughout the entire history of Doctor Who, when an episode will be emotionally charged, whether through the life of the character, or the Doctor. While they may be far and few between at times, in this season they come in spades. There is the infernal pleading of Donna for the Doctor to save just one life from the destruction of Pompeii, the incredible heartbreak that her grandfather seems to wear on his face like a death mask, as if he really knows what had happened before the end of Turn Left (even tough no one else does), when everything reverses course, and when the Doctor's daughter is shot and apparently killed. Then of course, one of the deepest cuts comes from the Library, where we meet an apparent highly emotional connection from the Doctor's future in the form of Riversong. Finally, at Journeys End, it appears all is lost, only to go through the vacuum of space time and come out the other end a little dustier, but still just as confounding as ever. Thus continues the enigma that is the Doctor. 2008-11-21

"I'm Sorry, I'm SO Sorry,......"
that David Tennant has stepped down after next year's periodic specials.
My family and I were vacationing in England and just happenned to turn on the telly when 'Stolen Earth' was being broadcast. Of course, it is a TBC story, and as we were leaving the UK before the week was out, we thought we would miss the second half- only to discover 'Journey's End' was broadcast the next night! I finally received this box set we were able to view the conclusion after five months of waiting.
All I can say about Tennant's Doctor is he is POSITIVELY BRILLIANT!!!!! I was a fan from the Tom Baker days, and after college pretty much forgot about the Doctor until this past July.
The difference in special effects, stories, casting and overall packaging of the show is the difference between the original Flash Gordon B/W films and Star Trek TNG- not to say the Who series suffered terribly from low budgets- the stories and the characters were what really caught you, wasn't it then?- but it was great to see modern CGI effects and a bigger budget for sets and music elevating the Doctor series to its present glorious heights.
Solid writing, great callbacks to earlier series, and just a wonderful exploration of the Doctor's character and his companions is outstanding- Only the Davros at heart can be disappointed!
