Popcorn T.V.
This show is like Godzilla with computer-generated creatures instead of guys in rubber suits. How? Because this show, like the Godzilla movies, features human characters and there lives which are really kind of dull and boring. Like the monsters of Godzilla, the monsters of Primeval are the stars, regardless of how much screentime they have. If I sound like I'm complaining I'm not. We love the Godzilla movies because of this, just as we love this show. Primeval is great. Unlike Doctor Who, which gave off corny, power ranger-jives, this show has more of a mature Sci-Fi touch. It gives off the feel of a documentary like Walking with Dinosaurs (surprise), except with a soap opera/drama backdrop, a la Buffy, Smallville, etc. albeit, shallow, and not very heartwrenching, or even interesting, (see Godzilla comparison above), instead of a narrator describing the actions of paleontologists digging up dinosaur fossils in addition to CGI prehistoric action (which is also exciting). So yes, the science in here is greatly exagerrated, and its not a thought provoking masterpiece, like, oh say, Jurassic Park (the book), but usually its nice to have something that's pure escapism, where you can just turn your mind off for 40 minutes or so, and just enjoy the ride, and help relieve yourself of the awful drudgeries that is work, school, chores, and anything else that just fills up our short lives with stress and aggravation and anything that requires thinking so hard it leaves your brain dead by the end of each weekday.

ahhhh.... finally dinosaurs and creatures ..and more
Now you dont have to wait for that next monster movie to come out as they
are comming out in every episode of Primeval. The cast and stories are
pretty good, but the creatures are great ! Once you start watching, its
hard to let go...till you've watched it all.

More please ....

Fun Family Creature Feature
Great show! Great special effects, acting and stories. Love that we can all watch it together and get scared every week together because it's PG. So glad it came to the U.S!

Excellent Show with Lots of Surprises
I first learned about this show on the BBC America website. Since I don't have BBC America, I was able to purchase a show on iTunes to check it out. I loved it so much that I bought two more and had to get the DVD set when it came out. Primeval was created by the talented team who made Walking with Dinosaurs for the Discovery channel and their influence shows. The show has a wondeful strong science core mantained by the lead Douglass Henshall as Nick Cutter. The team members of Stephen, Abby and Conner as the core group are also excellent. When I received my set,I was intially disappointed that there were no episode guides or booklets in the set as with the Dr. Who DVDs. After watching all the episodes, I can see why. The producers want you to be surprised by the outcome. Other reviewers have pointed out series highlights, so I won't go into great detail. I will say that the production features are high quality and outstanding. The monsters are scary and interesting and they don't go into gore as Torchwood does. The way the series starts out, is not how it ends and many character nuances are brought to the fore. I for one was completely surprised at the changes and revelations. I cannot wait for series three! The theories of the anomalies leading to both past and present are extremely interesting and the consequences of such are fascinating. It is outstanding work. The Brits keep coming with the best sci-fi shows and Primeval joins Dr. Who and Torchwood as my favorite shows. The wrting is top notch, the stories are interesting and creative and they are putting US TV sci-fi to shame. Grab this DVD set and enjoy!

Great, great fun
Currently we're only on episode 4 where I live but I LOVE the series. The characters each have their own appeal and the effects are stunning. With our current exchange rate I might have to wait a bit before I buy seasons 1 and 2 but I am determined not to miss an episode while it's on TV. If you like creatures running amok (anything from bad-tempered dinos to absolutely adorable prehistoric dodos), coupled with characters you care about, this one is definitely for you. There aren't many programmes on TV I make a point of sitting down and watching instead of catching it on the run, but this is one of them.
