Fairly Predictable, but still funny
As many other reviewers pointed out, this is a pretty predicatble movie. Two people who do not care for each other being put together in a bonding situation, and after some time, grow to appreciate each other. Been done before. I found this movie still funny and a bit original with the premise of 3,000,000 dollars and two supporting friends who add to the mixed emotions. Cameron Diaz and Aston Kutcher are good, and Dennis Miller as the Judge and Queen Latifa as the Therapist add to the cast nicely. Plenty of laughs and scheming of situations that create enough action to pull you through, even though you know how it is going to end. Worth a purchase, or at least rental. 2008-09-14

What Happens in Vegas is the dumbing down of comedy...
Well, it is as much as I have predicted, a barely watchable comedy with mediocre stars Cameron Diaz and Ashton Kutcher heading the cast. There were some funny moments, Kutcher either had the better lines or more experience in comedies where as Diaz's only real success at comedy started and ended with There's Something About Mary. Kutcher shouldn't have quit his day job and stayed on That 70's Show, he played the airheaded clueless and incredibly dumb part very well. I think he's trying to break out more into film, and I guess it's only a matter of time when he's given the right script? I can't recall the last really good film Diaz was ever in? Can't say Charlie's Angels, it was OK, but nothing special. What Happens in Vegas pretty much plays out the predictable story of two people who go to Vegas to forget out their personal troubles, get hammered (like many I expect) and end up married. Perhaps by fate, Kutcher pulls the handle and thus wins 3 million dollars. Well, now they are both in it for the money, but instead of being granted an annulment or a divorce, Judge Miller sentences them to 6 months hard marriage counseling. Some funny things happen that I got a kick out of. Both do horrible things to each other to make the other quit. Diaz ties up the bathroom for hours, Kutcher uses the sink for a toilet and "Oh, by the way...it's your day to do dishes." Plus the removal of the bathroom door and the toilet seat was classic. I'll have to remember than one for myself. In the end, both being to "grow on one another" but in its predictability and cliché story/screen play...What Happens in Vegas pretty much lost my full attention about half way through. Not terrible, but certainly not great by any stretch of the means. I can't recommend buying it, perhaps watching it out of curiosity...that' about as far as it goes. There are better comedies out there, and if you want to see a classic with a Vegas back drop, watch "Honey Moon in Vegas", a far funnier and more entertaining film... pure, classic Nicholas Cage comedy at its best. 2008-09-12

"Why, You Know Why" ~ The Commericalization Of The Film Industry, Or Films About Commercials
You definitely know that the American film industry is suffering in the areas of creativity and originality when they begin to make movies based on television commercial slogans. Such is the case with the '08 romantic comedy `What Happens in Vegas' starring the ohh.., so adorable Ashton Kutcher and the irrepressible Cameron Diaz. There's no need whatsoever to recount the storyline because you already know it whether you've seen the movie or not.
Having that said, I also must admit that despite its predictability and shallow plot development it actually works. Kutcher and Diaz work well together and the storyline moves along at a quick enough pace to hold the audiences interest despite the fact of knowing where it's all heading. All that and a happy ending too!
Not Shakespeare but for an evening of light, brainless fun why not?

Predictable But Not Bad
This is definitely NOT the usual genre I'm interested in, but my daughter rented it, so to get our money's worth...
I was actually kind of surprised that it was as good as it was. This is really the first time I've ever seen Ashton Kutcher act, except for That 70's Show, and he's a lot better than I expected. I have never been able to get through the Butterfly Effect, so I can't say much about his acting skills in that one.
Cameron is still a major babe, no doubt. I've actually never seen her do a drama, so this is right in line with what she is good at.
Dennis Miller has the best line in the movie when he says, "I sentence you to six months of hard marriage!" That was also the line used in some of the trailers. Maybe that says something about the rest of the dialogue, but then again, I'm easy to please, as long as the heroes don't die in the end.
I had fun with the interaction between Ashton's lawyer buddy and Lake Bell. They had a hate-turned-to-lust thing going that was pretty amusing. I really miss that sci-fi show she did a few years ago!
Nothing about the movie made me laugh out loud, but nothing upset me or made me roll my eyes too much. This is just a mildly humorous love story. I don't think I'd watch it again unless I was a captive audience, but I wouldn't hate seeing it again, either. If you are into romantic comedy, I'd recommend this.

With two beers it's better
This is a funny "no brainer" movie with a sweet ending. You don't have to think about the plot, it is very predictable. Just relax and enjoy the slap stick humor. This is a good movie to watch after a hard day of work with a couple beers and some popcorn. It will make you laugh and you don't have to bring your brain. This would be a great first date movie too. 2008-09-09
