"We're All Different,Some More Than Others"
n 1985 a movie named "The Breakfast Club" came out and i don't think anybody expected it would become the hit and have the impact it did. This movie changed the way teen movies were made and set a new standart for them.Even today those movies all owe a little something to this beloved movie. It adresse issues such as stereotypes and teenage anger. It also points out a very strong message and even if the movie is over 20 years old now,it doesn't matter it still is up to date as most of the things that happens still happens in High Schools. There are still nerds, basket cases, princesses, criminals and athletes in each schools and that is precisly what the 4 main characters are, different from the rest. The story is original and is still as good and funny as it was back when it was released.

4 teens are sent to the 8 hours Saturday detention at a Illinois High School in a fictionnal city, for different reasons.John Bender(Judd Nelson),the criminal is sent there because of the false fire alarm he pulled earlier in the week.Andrew Clark(Emilio Estevez),aka the sporto,is there because he tapped ahem, someone's buns togheter.Andrew Johnson(Anthony Michael Hall),the nerd is there because he was caught with that's right,a flair gun in his locker.princess Claire Standish(Molly Ringwald)is there because she skipped class to go shopping(what else?hehe).Allison Reynolds(Ally Sheedy),the weirdo is simply there because she has nothing better to do.Those teens don't have much,if any in common except they all have problems and they all belong to different groups.Of course there is a character that you will relate to more than others, and if you want to know wich one mine was it was probably John Bender as he was the entertaining one.

These 4 teens will troughout the course of the day, learn about each other and try to understand each other and even experiment with things.Paul Anderson as the mean Principal was really convincing and his role was appropriate for this film and there is also the Janitor who has a small role in the movie as well, outside of that there are a few kids's parents in it but that's about it as far as characters goes. The cast for the movie was pretty good with Judd Nelson and Emilio Estevez being the ones delivering the best performances in it.Most of the actors in the movie were also part of the brat pack movie that were famous in the 1980s but this was the first and possibly best one.Anyone who was a teen in the 80s has to have seen it,if not well...anyway you can still watch it now anyway.

This movie was defyning for the teen movies that followed it and its a great piece of pop culture used in many television shows(such as Family Guy,The Simpsons,Futurama and many other shows)and others. It even receved an award. The soundtrack was also famous for having the new wave band the Simple Minds's hit "Don't You Forget About Me" wich was aired quite often in the 80s.It is also to note that movie has a good length, doesn't have any scenes that are dragued too long and its captivating. The Director and Writter,John Hughes made some pretty good movies and some of the greatest teen movies ever and this one might be the crowning achievement of his career.Simply put, this is a must see movie and a classic one that nearly everyone can enjoy and i give the highest rating, symbol of excellence a well deseved five stars,I highly recommend The Breakfast club. Not as good as I remembered..
I have to admit I've never been a fan of John Hughes. He's like an icon to many Gen Xers, not necessarily because they all like his films (many don't), but because he was the quinessential 80's teenage comedy man. But this film is probably the most overrated one he ever did. I thought it was good when I first saw it, but it's really tame stuff masquerading as edgy, pointed teen angst. The concept itself could have been interesting (a day's detention with 5 typical high school types, the nerd, the spoiled queen, the druggie, the jock, and the "alternate" chick), and it's surprising that Hollywood greenlighted a film with no real plot like this one (Hughes had major pull in those days). But the execution is really pedestrian. I especially dislike the ending, in which the alternate chick cleans up and ends up with the jock (never happen), and the druggie and the queen together was even more preposterous. It's ridiculous. It completely undermines the entire story of the 5 castes of teenagers. There are a few choice moments (the man who played the principal was quite funny at times), and some of the dialogue is decent, but overall it will mainly be remembered for a nostlagia trip for 80's kids.

Intense Portrayal of Teenage Angst
For a "dialogue movie," this film is gripping all the way through. It accurately portrays the angst teenagers feel on a wide range of emotional issues. The story is about five teenagers, each form a different clique, serving Saturday detention in a high school. There's a brain, a beauty, a jock, a criminal, and a basket case. The characters, who hadn't met before, have complete mistrust of each other at the start. As the movie progresses, each character gradually opens up to prying questions from the others; first, it seems, simply to fight off boredom. At first, their defense mechanisms are on full guard, and some lie about who they are and why they are in detention. But as the diverse personalities begin to sympathize with each other, they become more honest. Eventually, they each admit the true reason for their detention, and reveal their most painful emotions. This film is a cult classic that will appeal to teens and adults equally.

Message Of Conformity
Don't let this one fool you.

While this angst-filled detention-as-confessional `80's Brat Pack flick is hailed as a banner of youthful freedom, the final resolution can't be viewed as anything but a Big Brother-ish commercial for the joys of conforming to what's socially acceptable. Think about it. Remember when the it-girl transformed the individualistic outsider into the image of what was in, and suddenly the loner became happy and accepted and wanted by the cool guy? A terrible message for anyone, but especially for kids forming a sense of self awareness.

The Breakfast Club isn't a very good movie but obviously it somehow strikes a chord with enough people for it to have classic status and be fondly recalled on best-of lists and has been paid tribute to on everything from songs to an episode of Dawson's Creek. Me, I never saw the attraction here and don't like The Breakfast Club very much. Skip it for better `80's teen movie fare.
