Somewhat cheesy but very entertaining and enjoyable
I have been a Moody Blues fan since forever, and have seen them in concert a number of times over the years. When I saw this, my first reaction was "what? yet another live album"? The twist this time is that this is just the band, sans symphony orchestra, and thus the first live album of just the band since 1969's "Moody Blues Live + 5".
"Lovely To See You" (2 CDs, 20 tracks, 105 min.) is in essence a greatest hits live album, and that of course is what the fans want. All the classics are here. CD1 (9 tracks, 43 min.) is not bad, with tracks like "Tuesday Afternoon", "The Voice" and "I Know You're Out There Somewhere". But CD2 (11 tracks, 61 min.) is so much stronger, starting off with a cover of Jeff Lynne's "Forever Autumn" (from the "War of the Worlds" album), a rocking "Your Wildest Dreams", "Higher and Higher" (with drummer Graeme Edge singing lead vocals on his own composition), and then of course the last 4 songs, which define what the Moody Blues have become: "I'm Just a Singer (In a Rock & Roll Band)", "Nights in White Satin", "Question" and the closer "Ride my See-Saw". Just irresistible.
One of the reviewers here complains about the sound quality on this album and that the Moody Blues sound like a "garage band". Has that person listened to the same album as I have? The sound is lush and pristine throughout the album. Does the band break new ground with this release? Of course not, but that isn't the point. This album may be a bit cheesy, but who cares. It is entertaining and enjoyable from start to finish.

Far from their best
The Moody Blues are one of the best bands to grace the charts in ---well, forever, but this cd doesn't showcase that quality. The sound is awful! There are times when the drums jarringly drown out the vocals. I didn't think it possible for the Moodies to sound like a garage band, but there are moments on this cd when that is the case. Pass on this one and go for Anthology instead. It is a far superior cd. 2007-01-16

Lovely to See You Rocks
Best live performance in years. I always said I wanted to see Justin sing in a 200 seat hall. This is close. If Forever Autumn dosen't bring tears to your eyes you have missed one of the great vocal performances in rock. Production is excellent. It was the first DVD I watched on my new Sony HDMI upconvert player. The picture and DTS sound are flawless. 2006-12-14

This is a great CD
I am a younger generation MB fan- and I really enjoy this CD. The MB are one of the greatest ever- and it is great hearing their music live. This CD contains a great mix of the older classics as well as the newer material. You will not be disappointed! 2006-10-13

Moody Blues at Their Best!!
This DVD was EXCELLENT!! The only thing I really missed was the "Cold Hearted Orb" oration by Graemme Edge. I also missed Ray Thomas, but they made a good choice with Norda Mullen as a replacement. She was perfect.
I was not sure this would be a good listen without a supporting orchestra, but these guys are still the Moody Blues, and they still sound like the Moody Blues of the 70's that I remember. In fact, I have listened to "Live at The Red Rocks" since, and I think that "Lovely to See You" is better. I think that they sometimes, like in "Red Rock", relied too heavily on the orchestra. ,I was also happy to hear some old favorites, like "Are You Sitting Comfortably" "Higher And Higher" "Steppin' In A Slide Zone" ", "Talking Out Of Turn" ", and Justin Hayward's solo hit "Forever Autumn"
So if you are a true Moody Blues Fan, this DVD is a great buy!
And the louder you play it, the better!!
