Glad I Got 'Em
In my review for season one, I said I wouldn't be buying other seasons. But reviews for season 2 made me change my mind and I'm glad I did. They are fantastic!! The only problem I have now is the rerecorded opening theme. 1: They didn't get it right. a- Timing is off a little. b- The soprano was good, but different. 2: It simply wasn't necessary to rerecord it. a- You can't replace a familiar sound with a new one. b- Old, vintage recordings have been remastered for years now. When I watch these new DVD's, I skip the opening theme. Maybe with the 3rd season they'll restore the 60's theme. But I won't get my hopes up.
A curious question: If Star Trek was on NBC, why are the DVD's CBS?

Waiting for Blu-ray
Having already bought the DVD season sets as they came out (also having bought most of the original two-ep DVDs), and saving my favorite remastered eps on my DVR, I am waiting this time for Blu-ray.
Count me among those disturbed that CBS/Paramount isn't offering Blu-ray in this and the scheduled third season release -- it feels like gouging the fans, and I am not going along. You know they will release this in Blu-ray, it's just a question of when, and it will be sooner than later.
Although I like the new effects (as a die-hard fan since about '70) and have enjoyed the quality of the remastered live-action footage, it's not enough to make me buy another standard-def second season just for them.
My one-star rating is based on five stars for the series, minus four stars for not being on Blu-ray.

TAKE A PASS UNTIL A BLU-RAY COMES ALONG!!
There should have been a Blju-Ray of this is the studio had any respect for the fans, who hugely overpaid for the fiasco first season on HD-DVD. PLEASE teach the studio a lesson and DON'T BUY this until a Blu-Ray version gets issued - as it should have been simultaneously with this. 2008-08-02

2nd season redux lacking, but a must have despite HD departure
I was excited for the HD format. I bought the player, got the phaser remote and TOS-R sold me on the format. I'm sorry BIG $ caused dirty pool towards HD being dumped and lead to the highly more expensive Bluray win.
I thoroughly enjoy my season one HD combo set. I am constantly playing with the HD aspects and alternate features HD has over standard format.
But I love the fact, that long after my HD player bites it, I can still play the Restored, updated FX episodes in standard player and years down then line, god forbid when I'm "forced" to buy a bluray player that will backwards convert my discs and play.
I think strongly Paramount should have went ahead and pre-produced the 3 seasons on HD/Combo and just set them aside in a warehouse for release at their leisure for the fans that bought at the elevated price -tagged season 1! Season 2 will have zero new features except for Bill Blackburn's home movies.
But I am excited to see the new fx. I'm a true TOS fan, and this is a way to make an old favorite new again. I have them on the classic original dvd season sets, so I can always watch old school as well.
Does paramount rape it's TOS fans? Yep. Over and over again. I myself said after 1 ep vhs, 2 ep. dvd's and I thought, finally on season dvd sets, I was more than done buying this series. But then, the unexpected happened. A studio spent real $ to re-create new fx for a 40+ year old tv series, making it less cheesy in it's special effects, matte paintings, plastic starship models, etc. I was understandably curious.
It's wonderfull to watch the shows and be amazed and delighted to see how they've taken low budget effects and over-used stock shots and make them state of the art, without losing the charm or the original intent of it's creators and time the series was created. If this ever hits Bluray they can choke on it's stock and hope it rots in a warehouse forever. What's disappointing from CBS is the complete omission of the NEWER episode teaser trailers used in the re-broadcast airings on tv. All we get are the aged older trailers from the 60's and they're not restored.
I have my preorder for this and will also get season 3 when it hits as well, but after that, TOS-R bluray format can bite it.
