Good film for whole family!
Awesome picture and audio quality. The central character rose a bit quickly from zero to hero, but you can't deny the appeal of the detail in the animation and the funny one liners. Loved Mantis-one of my favorite characters! The actors and voices were distinct; the characters seemed to stand on their own, unlike some of the other animated films, where it almost seems like the characters are cartoon versions of the actors. Very cool fight scenes and important message that appeals to parents and kids-strength of character is more important than some "secret ingredient"-a person directs his/her own course. Thoroughly enjoyed this film! 2008-11-11

Kung Fu Panda-monium!
I had not seen this in theaters so the Blu-Ray was my first time viewing this movie. I liked the trailers and knew that it would look great so I snagged it up and gave it a whirl. It met and then exceeded my expectations. They did a wonderful job with everything about this movie. I've been a long time animation fan and have appreciated what Dreamworks has done with their animated movies, CGI and the handrawn stuff before that. They have all seemed a little more pop culture like and, while fun to watch once, not really much for repeat viewing. I can watch Pixar movies over and over again, but never went back to Shrek, Madagascar, Shark Tale or any other Dreamworks movie more than once or twice.
Kung Fu Panda is a new level for them though. It has a good story, comedy, heart, action and style. I love the look of this movie. The fight scenes made me feel the same way I do watching live action Jackie Chan or Jet Li movies. I really got into them. The character design is stylish without being distracting, but I would have liked to know more about The Furious Five. I was upset that the DVD came with a 20 minute DVD about them, but it was not included on the Blu-Ray.
Bottom line, Dreamworks got it right with this movie and it is worth a buy. It is a world that I would like to re-visit again. I already want to watch it again just to see the fight sequences and I hope they make a sequel that is just as good. Kung Fu Panda [Blu-ray]

Great buy
I bought it from Walmart yesterday as they are selling it a day in advance instead of the 9th. I got the Blu Ray version and as a hidef fanatic, I am impressed with the picture and audio quality. This is a must have for Blu Ray fans as the CG animation looks great. The only thing that I didn't give it a full five stars is that it does not have a digital copy companion. As far as the overall movie goes, I did like the story. I watched it with the family and we all laugh at the funny scenes. You get all these famous actors and actress doing the voice-over, combine it with awesome hidef CG quality and definitely your money is worth it. 2008-11-09

Don't let the trailer put you down from watching this!
The trailer for this film made me think this would be a terrible movie, but it turned out pretty well, actually.
Yes, the story is predictable and simple, as all children stories are, but it had some hilarious moments and the animation was second to none.
Then why 4 stars? Because this movie could have been the very first Dreamworks movie to stand on its own without any pop-culture references, but... They couldn't help themselves and played "Kung Fu Fighting" at the beginning of the credits. Just a minor smear in an otherwise perfect movie... when the song is over, Chinese-style music begins, which better suits the movie. By the way, the Chinese characters during the credits are the actual characters for each of the animals.

Not worth the price for the Blu-Ray version -- No double-feature!
I loved this movie. I saw it in theaters and knew immediately that I was going to be buying the Blu-ray version.
However. This review isn't about the movie, which is great. This review is about the Blu-ray version.
The DVD version comes in a double pack, including the 'Secrets of the Furious Five' "sequel" to the original movie. That's a huge draw of buying this movie.
However, the Blu-ray version not only does not have the double-pack offer, it also does not have the movie bundled onto the single blu-ray disc at all, which means if you buy this version you miss out on the new movie.
Why on earth would anyone buy the Blu-ray version if they're missing out on the 'Secrets of the Furious Five' sequel? It seems foolish.
Bad studio decision.
