Well done!
This movie was so well done! The casting for each role was perfect. Gerard Butler was charming (as usual!) and Hillary Swank totally believeble. Just a well written, wonderfully performed story. Worthy of any DVD library. Also see Gerard Butler in Nim's Island! Another great movie. P.S. I Love You is a keeper. You'll watch it many times. 2008-08-14

P.S. - This film is boring!
I don't know where to start. This movie could have been good. It was a nice departure from the regular happy-ever-after tear jerkers we normally get from the studios these days. Unfortunately, there really wasn't a story. Well, not a believable one, anyway.
Hillary Swank was horribly miscast. She is not the least bit feminine, and I think the movie makers realized this because they spent far too much time having her prance around in her undergarments trying to convince us otherwise. She needs to eat a meal or two! Her lisp (or overbite) was very distracting and it was an awkward performance. Most of the time her character was whining and complaining. It was very hard to believe that her husband Jerry (the gorgeous Mr. Butler) would have ever been attracted to her.
There was a secondary story involving Harry Connick, Jr. that showed some promise. He did a fine job of portraying a cynic, burned one too many times by the opposite sex. His love connection with Swank's character is painfully wasted in the end. There was a very disappointing scene in which they kiss and decide it feels like they were kissing their respective siblings. This kind of scene has been done before and better in "Back to the Future".
If you feel like doing nothing other than reveling in Gerard Butler's beauty than go ahead and spend the afternoon watching this overdone, drawn out, waste of time.

Great cast, pot holes in the story
************ SPOILER **************
First is my disclaimer: I am indeed a "chick" and needed a good cry and a good laugh when I rented this.
I perpetually resist the nudges of my good girlfriends to dive into your typical girl movies. This one, however, was too tempting to leave on the shelf. The cast alone drew me in and I was not disappointed by their performances. Some inconsistencies in the story, however, pockmarked them.
In the beginning of the film after Gerry has passed on it is difficult to sort out the relationships between Kudrow, Gershon, Swanks and the sister. Holly refers to her sister by relationship, but the other two females who tag along don't seem like best friends; rather, they appear to be more like cousins, more distant sisters or friends from work. The relationship between those three never seems believable or relatable. Regarding the handsome one night stand, that particular scene is entirely out of context with Holly's character. As one reviewer pointed out, why doesn't Holly, the grieving survivor of a 10 year marriage, know who her late husband's best friend is? That seems like a fairly major hole considering the role he plays later in the movie.
Apart from the above and several minor other objections, I thoroughly enjoyed the movie's "face value". The couple is cute (if not exceedingly so) and witty. Together and void of any outside influences they fit their roles well. I enjoyed their chemistry enough to cry when Gerry died. I also loved watching Kathy Bates as Mom. It's very easy to imagine her as the steely eyed mother sans sugar coating that is slightly less than comforting towards her daughter, but no less devoted.
All in all, if it's that time of the month, this is a good choice. My three stars is based almost entirely on hedonistic value and not on merit.

Great movie. A must see..
Hillary Swank should receive an oscar for her performance in P.S. I Love You. And Gerard Butler is so hot with his thick Irish brogue and roughish good looks. I can't tell anyone what its about you just have to see it for yourself. 2008-08-04

I Love You
Excellent performance by Hillary Swank and cast.I originally saw this movie in the theatre and loved it so much that I ordered on Amazon. There aren't too many movies that can bring a tear to your eye and make you fall in love with all of the character's. I also recommend the book I LOVE YOU.. I Love You. Now What?: Falling in Love is a Mystery, Keeping It Isn't it is my favorite book about relationships and love.
