Dog Whisperer With Cesar Millan - The Complete First Season

i am an avid fan of cesar milan. anyone that is even thinking abotu getting a dog or wants to help understand their dog's behavior NEEDS to watch this. it's simple to understand and entertaining for those without pets. i've implemented his methods with my own dog and others' and he's dead on. it's amazing to see the transformations of the owners and the pets! Read his book as well "cesar's way" for a better understanding of his methods. 5 stars!!!!!!! i can't wait to get season 2

I have watched Cesar's entire first season twice. The dvds are fun to watch (and he's awfully charming and handsome, ladies!), but each episode seems to play out the same. A practising alpha for over 20 years, Cesar makes everything look so easy, magical and instantaneous. The dogs do not know him, they immediately sense his alpha-ness and thus, they do what he wants. I think the key comes more in initially teaching the owners how to have their dogs see them as the alpha. A real alpha limits eye contact with his pack, eats first, etc. A dog who sees himself as the alpha and not as the owner is going to need more than a choke chain a finger pointed at it if you ask me. Maybe with some dogs this works, but not my 7. I have since been learning Jan Fennell's method (The Dog Listener) for 3 weeks now and the results clearly discernable. My Jack Russell is actually much calmer! Jan has a book as well and it's awesome. I hope she gets her own TV show to give viewers an alternative that will work for them.

I competed in obedience trials for 10 years, trained my own dogs, trained dogs for others and also gave obedience classes and ran a 4-H dog project program for years. I was a confident trainer until I rescued a young labrador from an animal shelter. I took her to obedience classes, used every method of training and training collar I was familiar with (except electonic, won't use it) and used every suggestion given to me (food, clicker, head halter etc.) and STILL had major problems with this dog. After 4 months of trying I was seriously thinking of finder her another home when I found this Cesar Millan series instead by chance.

After spending 3 days watching the whole series and understanding his theories of dog behavior, I applied them to my dog. In 48 hours I had a different dog. She is not perfect, but I have confidence that I can now deal with the problem issues. She gets better every day. She went from being the worst dog in my present Canine Good Citizen class to being the best one in class.

This is a great series for understanding communication between human and dog and is a foundation to training successfully. I think those who have training experience will have more success than a novice unless the novice is also involved in a training class and has guidance from a professional.

I liked that Cesar was direct with his clients and that is also showed reluctance on the part of some clients to believe they were part of the problem, and that some of the clients really didn't want to take his suggestions.

I don't own a dog. However, I love watching the Dog Whisperer.

I think Cesar Milan has that effect on people-- he's so enlightening. He's always on top of the game and he really loves the animal, it's easy to recognize.

Anyway the show is amazing, helpful, and entertaining. Can't wait to watch season 2.

As long as you watch this video as a tool to understand what YOU are doing wrong that may impact your dog's behavior then it's good. Do not use this as puppy training. Cesar Millan keeps saying that he's a dog psy, not a dog trainer, and he's right, so go to dog training first, but watch those videos because they will teach you things that you may do wrong with your dog's training.

Why did I say "OMG THAT'S WHAT IT IS!!" because I rewarded my puppy on doing things that she shouldn't do. Watching Cesar's videos gave me the insight on my mistakes.
