I LOVE THE FIRST SEASON! BRING THE REST
I really like the first season of Happy Days. It has a differt tone that the leter years. It was the tone the series should have followed. The show was shot like a movie with no multi-camera shots and no live audience! It was very nostalgic and in the years, the episodes didn't seem to be in the right time period or even try to have the true hairstyles of the times. The first two years were the best, but the show was still very good for a few more years. I remember back to the night when fonzie jumped a shark over a net in the ocean, I said that it was the beginning of the end! if I only knew then what that remark would end up meaning now! Hooo Boy! I couldn't believe my eyes, the first time I heard about the book and site "Jump the Shark". I guess I wasn't the only person who thought or said something like that about that episode. I'm glad the first season is intact(at least to my knowledge). This season is great, but no extras on this set keep it from 5 stars. Too Bad :-(

Happy Days Season One - Great if You Love Series, Bad for Special Features
The first season of Happy Days is, by far, the best. This is the season where the series most resembled the movie "American Graffiti". This is the season where it tried to BE THE FIFTIES (except for ABC-TV not allowing Fonzi to wear a leather jacket in the beginning). As the show progressed in future seasons, it became more about issues of the 70's being transformed into the 50's. Although I enjoyed these later seasons back then, the show became ridiculous with things like the introduction of Mork and Mindy and the love between Joanie and Chachi. The fueds between Tom Bosley and Henry Winkler over star billing, etc. etc. didn't help either. Season One is fun, but there are no special features what-so-ever (it calls 'Full Screen Edition' a special feature!) Not sure what the reason is that some of these actors couldn't be brought together to talk about the show and add a little fun to this set. If you want to see the series, this is a great collection. If you are looking for a little bit of history or reflection, this collection is at the bottom of the barrel. Go get season one of "The Partridge Family" or "Gilligan's Island", if you don't already own them! They have GREAT special features.

best t.v. show of the 70's
happy days takes some people back to the 50's, but me ...I drift back to the 1970's when i could act like a child and not be ridiculed.the four main characters...fonz,ritchie,potsie and ralph were a realy tight gang of friends....it's the best t.v. show of the 70's..that's a mighty bold statement...but it's true..what's also true is happy days season 2 is coming out april 17th 2007. that's coming from paramount's own mouth....

on with the rest of the seasons
The first season was the worse season of at least the first four seasons. So lets get on the stick paramount and get the other seasons rolling. I dont think the show really got started till the second season. I did not buy the first season, but i am waiting for the second.

Return to a simpler time...
Unlike today, the most that kids at 1950s Jefferson High have to fear is failing a test, not snagging a date in time for the dance or getting into a fistfight with some of the guys from the "tough" neighborhood. And that era is truly a joy to return to, even via a DVD set in your own living room.

Storylines revolve around the Cunningham family, which include father Howard, mother Marion, teenage sons Chuck and Richie, and adolescent daughter Joanie. Richie's friends Ralph and Potsie - as well as Arthur Fonzarelli, aka "The Fonz" - also round out the cast.

Although most of the storylines are simple, revolving around Richie's school and social woes or the current issues within the Cunningham household, there are - of course - others that teach a moral lesson, such as when the Cunninghams stand behind a black friend in the face of their all-white neighborhood's prejudice.

Still others, such as the one where the Cunninghams contemplate building a bomb shelter, are almost funny to watch today. But in reality, they are really quite accurate representations of their time.

Can't wait for the release of Season 2!
