Glory

Remember what it was like at a time when one race was above another, tension among families and friends increased, war generals shaped history with foolishness and pure genius... while the act of serving one's country was the honorable, and expected, thing to do.

Not too different from today I supose.

This movie captures and portrays the Civil War in such an intimate and honorable way. Excellent performances. Moving soundtrack.

It is one of my favorite movies (well, it just might be my favorite). I highly recomend it to those who are history geeks, want to "go back in time and experience historic events in our nation", or simply be entertained by a story of true heroism and sacrifice.

If you are a fan of this movie, then this is the edition to have. Everyone turns in a wonderful performance, though I thought Morgan Freeman was the prize jewel of this movie. The story of the black soldier of the Civil War is told with passion and their bravery in combat is depicted in the most heart wrenching scenes made to film. We'll never really know all that was the 54th Massachusetts, but with "Glory" we have a gift which will keep their actions alive for countless years.

Perspectives are important in history. Many a time the Civil War has been presented as a white man's war, but it truly wasn't. Blacks along with Native Americans fought. Glory is a movie that shows the plight of black American soldiers in the bloodiest war in American history. Their trials, tribulations, courage, strength, and willingness to fight for a nation that despises them is inspiring. Shaw, the white colonel of the regiment, matures and realizes that white, black, whatever we are all capable of being brave. Denzel Washington, Morgan Freeman, and Matthew Broderick give good performances.

I liked this movie, but everytime I heard Matthew Broadrecks squeaky voice, I couldnt help but think of Ferris Bueller. I think some of the roles could have been cast better.

After doing research on my family history, I found out that I have family that lived in the Darien GA area during the time that was town was burned down. So this movie has some historical significance for me in addition that it also documents Black American contributions during the Civil War. Having a copy this of well portrayed movie is a great find to my DVD collection!
