Best yet!
My husband and I are great fans of the BBC literature classics. Many of their dramas have been remade over the years, none more than Jane Eyre. We have enjoyed compairing and contrasting the remakes. Many well known actors and actresses have played the roles, and each has done fine work and all are quite entertaining. However, in our opinion, none come close to the quality and entertainment value of this latest remake.
The cinematography, sets, wardrobe, acting and directing are first class. I'm sure this movie would have done well as a major theatrical release. If you have not seen this version of Jane Eyre, by all means, do. If contemplating purchasing this DVD for your collection or as gifts, you will be making a wise decision. This version of Jane Eyre will be the one the others will be weighed against.

Believable acting, costuming & scenery, Beautiful film!
I adored this film. It brought the book to life and though it did make some changes to Bronte's novel, they were good and reasonable ones. I loved the acting and the costuming, both were very true to the book. I want to watch it again and again! Truly a classic that's worth buying!!

Jane Eyre Masterpiece Theater, 2006
This is a real jewel of a movie, the best version of Jane Eyre there is. Filled with powerful emotions well portrayed by truly talented actors. Three cheers!

A must-see for the Jane Eyre enthusiast
Toby Stephens and Ruth Wilson are my favorite Rochester/Jane pairing ever. The chemistry between she and Rochester was amazing. While some liberties were taken with the story and dialogue, I can't say enough good about this version.

Some reviews complain that Toby Stephens wasn't an "ugly" enough Rochester, but I think he was absolutely perfect for the part. Stephens brought a level of sex appeal to Rochester that Timothy Dalton couldn't equal.

Ruth Wilson is my favorite Jane casting so far - she brought warmth, quiet intelligence, and humor to the role.

The ending was too Hollywood and sappy, but otherwise, this version is well worth your time.

Best renition so far...
Although a bit long (keeps the suspense going) and took a few liberties (fortune teller), this is probably the best brooding Rochester ever and Jane the most unassuming as well. Kudos to both actors and the rendition that showed true love in the end prevailed no matter what. Ok, that may sound sappy, but the cinematography and sets/costumes were spot on. Looking at it from a technical stance, I can't imagine there being anything to criticize. The Cieran Kinds version was good, but he was too barky to Jane. And he never smiled, although he cried very well. Thanks MP for another splendid version.
